These musicians and their musical output are our instant sources for inspiration at John Doe Revolution. We draw our influences from them, they make us smile, cry, jump and dance, they make us want to be a better webzine, better journalists and photographers, they make us want to make the world a better place, they make us want to make a difference and leave a mark in this world and their existance deepens our passion towards music. We're so glad that these bands exist.
The story of 15 Minutes Before The Dive started in late 2007. First there were five musicians who just wanted to explore the pop-side of their musical ambitions; soon it was plain to see that the guys on stage had became five new found best-friends, making the music they had always wanted to make and having a blast in the process.
After recording a couple of rough demos on the eve of Christmas 2007, and seeing the positive vibes their music and shows created, they decided that they wanted to capture something more focused and representative.
They recorded a 3-song EP Fleece Is The New Black in June 2008. The EP became a true representation of what the band is all about; playing music with the people that you love and making songs that you love.
The important, governing element regarding this band is the obvious love and trust between it's members. The group dynamics they behold is energetic, easy and happy, and they seem very fortunate to have found such fit people to form a group. They're different but still very alike; each of them is very talented but unwilling to take everything too damn seriously. We love them for their healthy atmosphere.
From all the underground bands this webzine follows and supports, we have to say that this one's honestly our ward; the one we follow and the one we sincerely love from the bottom of our little black hearts. Read more...
Just three years ago, August Burns Red were, to the naked eye, just another young band racing for a spot in the modern metal scene. Without hype, devoid of any smoke and mirrors, their second album Messengers debuted at #81 on the Billboard charts, going on to ever-so-quietly sell more than 80,000 copies. Fueled only by the honesty and dynamism of the music, fans multiplied exponentially, driving the bands MySpace plays well past the 17 million mark and flocking to the band's 2008 headlining tour – which included sold-out venues across the country.
Accenting the blistering guitar work and syncopated breakdowns that August Burns Red fans have grown to love are dynamics previously unexplored by the band. Their third album Constellations features more diverse tempos and cohesive song compositions than on its predecessors, as well as the band's maiden voyage to the land of guitar solos.
Although August Burns Red's music is often defined as Christian metalcore, JB Brubaker mentioned in an interview with Shout!, an online magazine, that "Christian is a religion, and not a style of music," and he would "rather just let the music speak for itself." However, Brent Rambler commented on the fact that "It is important to us that people know that we are indeed Christians...without having us stand up there and ram it down people's throats."
All genres and other definitions aside, we love August Burns Red for their super tight live playing, their brutal honest music and their down to earth attitude. Whether you're a metal fan or not, this is definitely the band you should listen to when you are in need of raw emotion expressed through music. Read more...
Anti-Flag is a punk rock band that was formed in 1988 in order to play music the members loved in while putting out a message that they believed in very strongly. Despite relatively modest beginnings and a back catalog of independent labels, the band has risen to steady popularity, having performed tours on four continents and signed to a major label. The band is most well known for their outspoken views on American government. Most recently, the band has focused criticism on the United States bailouts.
Instead of only offering music and entertainment, Anti-Flag also offers a vehicle that forces people to think. They don't ask anyone to agree but they want to make a point having something to say through music. "I can honestly say it has a lot to do with the kids and other punks we talk to" Justin Sane states out at their official site. "Like us, they care about what is happening in the world and like us, they are doing their best to make a change for the better, no matter how big or small that change may be."
Anti-Flag hopes that in some way, no matter how large or small, their music will have a positive impact on the world, our society, or someone's life. We love Anti-Flag for their passion for believing in something and making an effort to make things better. Read more...
Since Muse's inception in 1994, the band has comprised lead vocalist, guitarist and pianist Matthew Bellamy, bassist and backing vocalist Christopher Wolstenholme and drummer Dominic Howard. Muse is known for their energetic, phenomenal and extravagant live performances and their fusion of many music genres, including progressive rock, classical music and electronic.
Many of the band's songs are recognizable by Bellamy's falsetto and use of vibrato. As a guitarist, Bellamy often uses arpeggio and pitch-shift effects to create a more "electric" sound to his playing. The bass is distorted so it carries the rhythm, eliminating any need for a rhythm guitar. Muse's fourth studio album Black Holes and Revelations was influenced by various styles of European and Asian music, which together makes 'Eurasian' music. Their next, latest studio album The Resistance includes a song titled United States of Eurasia.
Muse is our biggest influence on working on our webzine, there's no band like Muse. As a band they represent everything John Doe represents. They're not afraid to try new things or to take a leap of faith from time to time. Muse is more than music. Muse is what inspiration sounds like. Muse is inspirational. Muse is all the feelings at the same time; it's you crying in the corner and Muse is you screaming at the top of your lungs. Muse can bring a cozy club atmosphere to big stadiums and a huge Wembley feeling to smaller venues. Muse will take your breath away. Read more...
